On New Year's Eve 2021, Edmonton police shot and killed a man after he was spotted apparently driving a stolen car. Read about the case.
On Christmas day 2021 a naked man was seen taking items from a Home Depot. The Edmonton police let a canine get him. If a naked person is walking around at night in Edmonton, where the temperatures can hit -20 degrees, then that person must not be well. Using a canine to assist detaining the person was probably more force than was required. Jean-Claude was awarded $63,000 because he was bitten by a police dog too many times. Hopefully this fella gets compensated. Read more about the case.
In September 2021 a Edmonton Police Service officer was charged with obstruction of justice due to a forged signature on an affidavit.

In August 2021 an RCMP officer used his firearm at a shooting range. He has now been charged with possession of a firearm while unauthorized. Read more of the officer.
In February 2021 a lady had her license plates swapped with a stolen car. When a Calgary police officer approached her and told her to lie down, she did. However the officer kicked her and his canine bit her. The officer was charged with assault. The officer probably thought that she was a thief and if she got assaulted the officer would say she was resisting arrest and he would get away with it. However, this lady was just a regular member of the public. Read more about the case.
At 4am on December 9, 2020 the Edmonton Police Service attended Pacey Dumas' house to look for a knife. By the end of it Pacey was in a hospital going into brain surgery to reduce
swelling in his brain. A neighbor witnessed a police officer kick Pacey in the head while Pacey was lying on the ground.
Pacey now has a hole in his skull.
On March 10, 2020 Chief Allan Adam was leaving a casino with his wife in Fort McMurray. There was an issue with his licence plate. The conversation quickly escalated out of control and when a back up officer arrived he charged at the Chief, without accessing the situation first but instead knocked the Chief down, punched him and put the Chief in a chokehold. After the Chief was arrested he had a gash on his face and a black eye.
The way the second officer showed up and didn't re-access the situation looks similar to another incident that happened in the USA. From the video it looks like the fellow is waiting for the second officer to re-access the situation to see why he is being arrested for speeding. However the second officer shows up and grabs for the fellows neck without a conversation occurring. Read more about Chief Allan's case.
Another knee incident. Just don't learn after George Floyd. In August 2019, Elliot McLeod was stopped by a Edmonton Police officer because he didn't have a working bell on his bicycle. The officer called for backup and McLeod was assaulted.
An officer was charged with assault and it was shown he fabricated his notes to justify the assault. He was not aware that his assault was being recorded and the video was brought forward about 8 months after the assault. The person who took the video sent the video to his friend instead of police because he didn't want to get involved. If we don't get involved the police are not held accountable and this violence continues. How many car owners have a defective horn? Do they also deserve a beating? I bike a lot and I don't have a bell on my bike. I sure hope I don't get
assaulted by a police officer for not having a bell. McLeod should be congratulated for biking and not using a car. Or was McLeod targetted because he is Indigenous? Read more about the case.
On December 13, 2017 Dalia Kafi was taken to the police station. As Constable Dunn was trying to remove her headscarf he threw her to the ground. In December 2020 Constable Dunn was found guilty assault causing bodily harm. Constable Dunn tried to convince the judge that Kafi was being aggressive and may be violent towards him. Gladly, the judge dismissed his claim. Do officers believe that they can say they feared their safety which is why they did a violent act like kill the person or beat them up and the officer can get away with it? Usually the officers can get away with it but we are glad to hear that this time the judge disagreed.
With the Dalia bleeding it doesn't seem like the officers provide any first aid immediately or get an ice pack. They stand her up and take off her scarf. How does a person stand up after that being thrown face first into the ground? She must have been dizzy. Read more about Dalia's case.
Sadly, Dalia passed away in June 2021.
